Medical and Social Programs

The Ever-Extended Helping Hand

On July 26, 1977, Imam Musa Sadr addressed 97 nurses at their graduation ceremony: “In addition to your future responsibility for caring for the sick and alleviating people’s suffering, you also have the opportunity in these cases, through advice, a word, a whisper, or a thought, to plant the seeds of hope. You can sow values and foster mental health, as well as physical well-being, in people’s souls.”

Building on Imam Musa Sadr’s holistic vision of every individual’s right to physical, mental, and social well-being, and the necessity of ensuring it for all without discrimination, the Imam Sadr Foundation directed its efforts toward expanding socio-medical services and mental health services in underserved areas. This led to the opening of numerous socio-medical centers across southern Lebanon, encompassing community dispensaries, a school dispensary, a physical therapy center, mobile medical clinics, and primary healthcare centers.

Emergency Response

Through its socio-medical centers, the Imam Sadr Foundation has responded to various emergency and relief situations in Lebanon, most recently the war that began on October 8, 2023, along the southern border. Amidst the bombings, deaths, and destruction, and with the internal displacement of southern residents to safer areas, the foundation, along with its partners, took swift action to save lives and alleviate the impact of the war. Humanitarian aid was provided to internally displaced persons and those remaining in border areas, addressing urgent needs across several sectors, most notably healthcare, protection and gender-based violence, food security, basic assistance, water, sanitation, and hygiene.

Prior to this war, the Imam Sadr Foundation had responded to several tragic events in Lebanon, such as the Beirut Port explosion, the COVID-19 pandemic, the July War, and the Qana Massacre, providing aid through various available means and helping to mitigate the impact of these crises.
