The Art of Carpet Weaving
This project stems from Imam Musa Sadr’s initiative launched in 1976 to teach women carpet weaving. He believed this initiative was a promising craft that could provide a source of income and that would contribute to economic recovery. Initially, the project targeted the mothers of Jabal Amel institution’s students in particular, and southern Lebanese women in general. However, with the outbreak of the civil war, the workshop had no other option but to close its doors, to be later relaunched.
Today, the Rozana workshop trains girls and women in carpet weaving under the guidance of experts, with flexible schedules. The participants are provided with the necessary materials and equipment to freely practice the craft in their homes. The Imam Sadr Foundation is responsible for marketing the carpets through their exhibitions and various activities in Lebanon and abroad, relying on the high market value of the products. The project is expected to generate numerous job opportunities with minimal investment. Read More
